Keep the original solver when it meets the decision’s time budget. If it cannot, compare approximations on the same held-out cases and on the quantities that change the decision. A fast prediction still needs a tested operating range and a fallback.
- Do I need a surrogate? Start with the decision clock and the cases where the solver is enough.
- How do I compare candidates fairly? Follow the workbench and its evidence checks.
- Which approach should I test? Compare the five 2D problems with the corrected 3D test. Their rankings depend on the problem and evaluation.
- Can I use it in an operating loop? Read what the room model still needs for a comfort decision.
